By Matt Friedman

State Sen. Loretta Weinberg may have put aside hostilities with Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joe Ferriero back in April, but she’s not going to let up on criticizing him.

A Message To Our Supporters

Primary Election night was a wonderful victory for everyone who believes that it’s time to Get Real about changing Democratic politics and local government in Bergen for the better.

Congratulations to all the grass and net roots Real Bergen Democrats who came out and voted, who worked hard over the last few weeks and who stood strong against the old politics.

And congratulations to Tim Driscoll, Bruce Carlson and Barry Doll in Bergenfield and Charlotte Bennett Schoen in Englewood on their great victories which were well deserved and give us all great hope for the future.

Statement of Weinberg, Johnson and Huttle

As we await the court's ruling on the final outcome of the Bergen County Democratic Primary ballot on May 4, we would like to make our position clear.

From the very start of this campaign we have been committed to making our party stronger by making it more open and inclusive. That hasn't and never will change.

To that end we created the Real Bergen Democrats as a vehicle for bottom up reform. We never agreed to dismantle that line and we continue to strongly support all the local municipal candidates running as Real Bergen Democrats.

Graceful Exit

New York Times
April 22, 2007

Sometimes you can stand up to a political boss and win. Occasionally you can even do it twice.

Take the case of Loretta Weinberg of Bergen County, who as an assemblywoman two years ago challenged the State Senate candidate backed by Joseph Ferriero, the county Democratic chairman, and won.

Democrats Make Peace in Bergen County

TRENTON -- Two years ago, when Jon S. Corzine, then a United States senator, was preparing to run for governor, he set out to put some distance between himself and Democratic county political bosses. It was considered a smart political move, given the way his Republican opponents were tenaciously attempting to link him to those party leaders.
